Worship at Calvary should always be an experience where you are welcomed warmly, invited into thoughtful engagement with the sacred text, offered the opportunity to hear and make beautiful music, and sent out into the world to love your neighbors. We generally have liturgically high worship style—most Sundays you’ll hear our large pipe organ played and see our ministers wearing robes. We’re always working to create space for meaningful and relevant worship, though, so don’t be surprised if your worship experience includes a Johnny Cash video or a beautiful hula danced in celebration. As followers seeking to grow in relationship with God, we know that worship week in and week out is a spiritual discipline.
When you choose to practice the spiritual discipline of regular worship at Calvary you’ll soon find ways in which you are not just attending worship but also participating in creating it—lay worship leadership is an important part of our theological conviction that we all have a part to play in the worship of God. Most of all, whenever we gather for worship as the family of Christ here at Calvary Baptist Church, we pray that heartfelt encounter with God happens—somehow.
We hope you’ll join us for worship on Sundays at 11:00 a.m.
May 11 - Pentecost Sunday
Sermon: Windblown, Rev. Amy K. Butler preaching
Today is the Day of Pentecost, a day when the disciples were gathered together and suddenly began speaking in different languages, communicating the hope of the Gospel to everyone present. What had happened? It was the coming of the Holy Spirit, the ongoing messenger of God's work in the world. In worship this Sunday we celebrate the coming of God's Spirit and recognize the many ways in which the fresh wind of God's Spirit blows through our lives, our community and our world.
May 18 - Trinity Sunday
Remembering What We Believe
Today starts a 6-week, non-lectionary series on the Apostle's Creed. Even though Baptists are "non-creedal people, we share in the history and tradition of the church universal. That means, on some level, The Apostle's Creed belongs to us, too. Though we cherish the priesthood of every believer, it never hurts to revisit what it is we, as the larger body of Christ, say we believe. For six weeks we'll explore different parts of the Apostle's Creed, looking a little more closely than usual at specific faith topics.
May 25 - Remembering What We Believe, 2 Timothy 1:8-14
This will be an introductory week about saying what it is we believe and introducing the Apostle's Creed.

A Collaborative Worship Experience
Calvary-Epicenter is a midweek worship experience for anyone seeking a meaningful encounter with God.
Calvary Baptist Church in collaboration with Epicenter DC is developing a new worship experience for individuals living in Washington, DC and surrounding areas. Why? Because we believe it's difficult to get your spiritual needs met when you work long hours in a challenging career in the nation's capitol. We also believe the demands of urban living leave little time or desire to discover what is truly meaningful in a community of faith on Sunday mornings.
The Vision
Calvary Baptist Church and Epicenter DC, a Methodist church in Rosslyn have independent and self-sustaining worship services each Sunday. Calvary's worship service is highly liturgical and is comprised of more traditional music. Epicenter DC, on the other hand, is more contemporary in worship style and music. Our vision is to use our respective gifts to meld together the best of ancient Christian tradition, modern music and compelling preaching to create a contemplative and restorative worship service where people can experience the possibility of encountering God. We anticipate these worship services will run no more than 50 minutes from 6:30 pm - 7:20 pm.
The schedule of Calvary-Epicenter services is:
June 25
July 23
August 20
September 17
Following the October 1 service, we will move to weekly Wednesday night worship experiences. If you are interested in becoming a part of this organic and Spirit-filled undertaking, please contact Mary Andreolli.
